Amaraya by LaRiSa
Nestled up in the hills of the Great Himalayas and facing the majestic snow laden peaks of the Kumaon Range lies a unique 11 key boutique hotel ensconced in the lap of nature.
Located in the Ramgarh district of Uttarakhand, the site sits quiet, hidden and unassuming as one approaches it from the main access road. Spread out across 2.5 acres, the property sits on the edge of a steep cliff that has been carved up into multiple terraces – respecting the natural gradient as well as the equitable distribution of the built masses across the site.
Envisioned as a refuge and an escape from the rigors of city life, Amaraya is surrounded by lush green mountainous landscapes with a view of the valley below.
The program called for a modest footprint – an open-air café at the entrance of the property with spectacular views across the horizon & two buildings – which were acquired and repurposed – that would house the rooms, bathrooms, common lounging spaces, kitchen, dining space & spill out decks.
The lawns, green terraces and walking trails are an added bonus, which can be accessed by a series of footpaths & steps encouraging one to explore the site and connect with nature.
This connection with the outside is ushered into the habitable blocks through large picture postcard like fenestrations – both visually and physically – as well as through a smattering of skylights that allow light to filter in all the while tracing the path of the sun.
A warm and neutral palette – with oak floors, off white textured walls & veneer paneling – along with an eclectic blend of furniture & furnishings exude a feeling of comfort and remind one of home.
Amaraya has been envisaged as a destination to unwind, engage and connect not only in and with the verdant environment but also with oneself.
