The Stack

  • Location Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, Maharashtra
  • Completion 2020
  • Gross Built Area 4,000 Sq. Ft.
  • Perched up on the 27th and 28th floors the apartments provide panoramic views of the city.

These apartments have been conceptualized as a singular dwelling rather than two disparate units providing panaromic views of the city as well as playing host to the drama of the sun, a constant dance of light and shadow.

Inhabited by a family spanning three generations, the abode responds to the needs of each generation by providing a sense of privacy and independence through the night areas or spaces of refuge – while encouraging the family to converge and come together in the communal day areas, at the very center of the apartments.

Further, these communal spaces are aligned along the East-West axis enabling the residents to experience the rising and setting sun – a kaleidoscope of colors as the day progresses and the seasons change. Sliding doors enable certain spaces to be used as an extension of the day areas all the while retaining their own unique identity if separated.

A neutral palette interspersed with the warmth of wood – accentuated by the pop of color through the art and furniture – gives rise to a sophisticated interior that the residents have come to call their ‘home’.

Designed keeping in mind future additions – the apartments are currently connected via an elevatorprovisions are in place to create a smooth and seamless transition by way of a staircase.

The dwelling is thus an amalgamation of contrasts, highlighted through its disparate inhabitants, warm hues and the dual functionality of spaces within spaces.
