In the heart of a bustling city, this 2,000 sq. ft. apartment aims to embody the core essence of India's culture and soul . "Project I," is a space where simplicity and integrity blend harmoniously, weaving a narrative of identity, roots, and authenticity.

The apartment is home to a family of five, a working couple, a 10-year-old child, and the grandparents who lovingly share their sacred space. The studio’s purpose was clear – to create a home that truly resonates with its inhabitants, and to achieve this, locally sourced materials and Indian brands became the soul of the design philosophy.

As you step into this bespoke abode, you are immediately embraced by the warmth of indigenous craftsmanship. The space is curated to reflect the very core of “I” – representing individuality and integrity with no room for pretence. The design is deliberately simple and clean, with visual minimalism that focuses on providing only what is truly needed and nothing more.

The design process was driven by the freedom to explore and create, allowing the studio’s sensibilities to shape every corner. Local Indian brands and materials take centre stage, proudly displaying the “make in India” spirit. From the hand-laid terrazzo flooring to the artistic wall textures, plush rugs, and cushions, every object in the house sings a song of craftsmanship rooted in our country’s heritage.

At the centre of the apartment lies a kitchen, the heart of every home . Here, the focus is on shared experiences, with a clean and simple design that can accommodate the whole family. Right adjacent to the kitchen is the art room, which is meant to be a sanctuary for the mother and child, celebrating their common passions and serves as a therapeutic oasis amidst the everyday.

Simplicity is a guiding principle throughout the apartment, evident in the multiple libraries strategically placed throughout the house. These bookshelves are not just storage solutions but gateways to the vast world of knowledge and imagination that the family cherishes so dearly.

“Integrity of Intent” resonates throughout the apartment. Each element was thoughtfully chosen to ensure visual harmony and functional coherence. Textures and tonality play an essential role in this coherent design symphony. The walls boast exposed concrete and the warm parquet flooring offers calm in the bedrooms. Hand-laid terrazzo flooring is creatively employed to give each bathroom a distinct identity, while wooden board ceilings and soft textiles exude a palpable sense of tactility.

The apartment’s colour palette further enhances its charm, with earthy tones, shades of wood, and soft pastel colours adorning the spaces. These hues blend seamlessly against the pristine white walls, creating an aura of tranquillity and a visual treat that is soft and easy on the eyes.

Throughout the space, the goal was to be immersed in a unique tale of India’s rich cultural heritage and modern sensibilities. The design’s intrinsic value is not just in its aesthetics but in the emotions it evokes and the memories it creates for the family that calls it home. Project I is a celebration of India’s artistry, its ingenuity, and its soul – a true reflection of “I” – a space that embraces its roots while soaring with integrity towards a bright and inspiring future.
