HCL & JLM Office
Since the management was common for the two biggest businesses of the group – Hindustan Composites Limited and JL Morison – the idea was to bring in the 100 odd employees into one office, consolidate them in one space and make it more efficient.
So the space was visually classified clearly into two work zones – one for HCL and the other for JLM.
Over all, the layout just worked out very neatly for the clients. It is a space that accommodates a staff of nearly a 100 people, with ample spaces for the management areas, boardroom, conference zones, storage and the servers, the recreation zone with the cafeteria and the toilet blocks. The business heads have their own space with the open offices for the rest of the staff, all of them have been very efficiently put together to create the look that the client was seeking. The look has been kept simple yet elegant – a reflection of the old Calcutta-based ethos of the owners with old money (since the current owners are the third generation in business). The client needed their transformation to come across through the design – traditional old-school going contemporary. This was a break away from their earlier offices that were so traditional in not just their look but also operations.
